Latest Phillies News/Links

December 23rd, 2009 | by joeb03 |

Very little going on in Philadelphia (regarding the Phillies, that is). The dust has finally settled on the blockbuster deal that landed Roy Halladay, and now management has only one more need to fill before spring training opens, the bullpen.

-Fernando Rodney remains a possibility to join a Phillies bullpen that needs some bolstering. He would love an opportunity to close, but likely will have to settle for a 7th or 8th inning role with a contending team, like the Phils or Los Angeles Angels. While the Angels are “in serious talks” with Rodney, don’t rule out Amaro making the move. The 32-year old RH reliever converted 37 games in 38 chances with the Tigers a year ago, but sported a 4.40 ERA. The guys over at Crashburn Alley warn Amaro to “say no” to Rodney.

-Check out TheGoodPhight’s offensive All-Decade Team. Not too many surprises on the list, but some great analysis all around. They also released the All-Decade team for pitchers, which is (not surprisingly) a much weaker list than the offense.

-The Phillies have made a couple minor moves in the past couple days, including the signing of former Penn State pitcher Nate Bump, who was a a first round pick in the ‘98 draft. Bump hasn’t played in the big leagues since 2005 with the Marlins.

-Phillies Nation breaks down the “adversaries in Atlanta” now that they have shipped Javier Vazquez to the New York Yankees. The trade makes the Braves instantly weaker, but they do have some financial flexibility to add a power bat in the middle of the order that they so desperately need.

-Check out these videos of the newest Phillies prospects:

-Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! GO PHILLIES!!
